october 5, 2011


Fall Break: Monday and Tuesday, October 3 and 4. There will be an assignment posted for October 5 before school resumes (I will be absent October 5).

Econ -  Students are beginning Chapter 5, which deals with Supply and the Law of Supply. The assignment for October 5 is to read section 1 (pages 112 - 116). While reading, students will complete an outlining activity for the section. Afterward, students will answer questions 1 - 6, page 116.

AP Econ -  Students are required to bring their textbooks to class on October 5. We are beginning Chapter 5, which deals with The United States in the Global Economy (pages 85 - 99).

Today's assignment is to read pages 85 - 89 (STOP at Quick Review 5.1). In class, students are to write complete answers to questions 1, 2, and 3 on page 102. These assignments are to be handed in to the substitute.

september 27 - 30, 2011



Econ -  September 27: We continued looking at the Determinants of Demand. The assignment for Tuesday was a handout on section 2 of Chapter 4.

September 28 is a late-start Wednesday. Class begins at 8:49.

September 28, we will cover the Elasticity of Demand -- Chapter 4, Section 3. Students are to read pages 102 - 107, and answer questions 1 - 7, page 107.

September 29, there will be a review and handout for Section 3 of Chapter 4.

There will be a test on Chapter 4 on Friday, September 30.

AP Econ -  September 28: There are more questions added to the homework for Chapter 4. Students are to answer questions 4, 9, 10, and 15. This is due on Thursday, September 29.

There will be a practice test and review on September 29.

Test on Chapter 4 will be Friday, September 30.

Econ -  Today, we are covering "Shifts" in the Demand Curve. Students are to read pages 95 - 99 and answer questions 1 - 6 on page 99.

AP Econ -  Today we begin Chapter 4: The US Economy, Public and Private Sectors. This is a relatively simple, straightforward analysis of spending patterns and income distribution which we will move through quickly.

Homework: Answer question 2, page 82. This is due tomorrow.

Key Terms will be due on Thursday, September 29.

Econ -  We are beginning Chapter 4, which deals with Individual Markets and the concept of Demand. The assignment today is to read pages 90 - 94, and answer questions 1 - 5, page 94.

AP Econ -  The Chapter 3 test s being taken today. We will begin Chapter 4 tomorrow.

Econ -  Wednesday, September 21 will be another "late start Wednesday."

Class begins at 8:49 that day. There will be a test on Chapter 3 on Wednesday.

AP Econ -  The Chapter 3 test has been postponed until Thursday, September 22.

Students will be continuing to review demand, supply, equilibrium, changes in quantity, determinants of demand and supply, and the effects of price controls today and tomorrow.

Econ -  On Friday, we read section 5 of Chapter 3 which deals with the role of government in a free enterprise system (pages 75 - 81). Students completed questions 1 - 5 on page 81.

Monday, we will review over sections 4 and 5 of Chapter 3 and the students will be assigned guided reading worksheets for those sections.

On Tuesday, there will be an in-class review of Chapter 3.

Wednesday, September 21 will be another "late start Wednesday." Class begins at 8:49 that day. There will be a test on Chapter 3 on Wednesday.

AP Econ - elow are all the assignments for Chapter 3. There will be a practice test given in class on Monday, September 19.

The Chapter 3 test will be given on Tuesday, September 20.

Econ -  Read Chapter 3, Section 3: The Ethics of the Free Enterprise System (pages 66 - 70). There is an Outlining Activity and Handouts that are assigned for this section.

AP Econ - We are now into individual and aggregate markets: Demand and Supply (Chapter 3). Today, students received handouts to complete as practice in class, dealing with The Law of Demand, Individual and Market Demand Schedules and Curves, Changes in Demand, and Changes in Quantity Demanded.

This assignment is only for students to self-check their understanding and complete on their own. It will not be collected as a graded assignment. Students who are having difficulty understanding these concepts are encouraged to come in for lunchtime study sessions. This is an Advance Placement Course, and the pace will be challenging as we continue to move forward into more and more complex concepts.

Econ -  Today, we completed a short in-class review to prepare for tomorrow's test on Chapter 2.

AP Econ - There was an in-class practice test today. Tomorrow, there will be an exam on Chapter 2.

There will be no updated post for Friday, September 9, since it is a test day.

Econ - Read Section 2 of Chapter 2 (pages 41 - 51). Today, the students completed a handout on the factors, rationale, and arguments against globalization. Tomorrow, there will be a short in-class review to prepare for Friday's test on Chapter 2.

AP Econ - The Chapter 2 assignment is due today. A test on Chapter 2 will be taken on Friday. Tomorrow, there will be a short, in-class practice test.

Students are reminded that Thursday, September 8, is Canyon's "Back to School Night." Also, Thursday will be a minimum day.

AP Econ - Today we returned the tests for Chapter 1. The Chapter 2 assignment is due tomorrow. A test on Chapter 2 will be later this week. The date has not been determined yet.

Econ - There was no assignment on Wednesday, August 31 due to the short day. We are beginning Chapter 2. Today, we are covering the topic of Economic Systems. The assignment is to read Section 1 of Chapter 2 and to answer questions 1 - 6 on page 40.

AP Econ - We are beginning Chapter 2, which covers The Market System and Circular Flow. This is a short chapter. The assignment is to read the chapter (pages 29 - 41) and complete the Terms and Concepts, page 42. Also, answer questions 8, 9, 10, and 11, pages 42 - 43.

The assignment is due Wednesday, September 7.

Students should be advised that I am available for lunchtime help on Mondays and Tuesdays, as well as by arrangement.
